Welcome to Hopewell's STEM program!
Families of the Oxford Area,
Hopewell is proud to be going into its third year of STEM education for the fifth and sixth grade students! This year our fifth and sixth grade students will have even more opportunities to connect to the STEM world as each student will be receiving an iPad to be used solely for educational purposes on school grounds as well as opportunities to connect with STEM partners in the community and other events.
Our goal here at Hopewell is to create STEM-literate students - students who can use Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to solve real problems and address day-to-day issues with focus and purpose.
We are looking forward to an outstanding 2018-19 year at Hopewell!
STEM-Literacy
STEM-literacy is identified as an ability to utilize the four components of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) to problem-solve. As part of this endeavor, students will become familiar with various design processes including the Engineering Design Process, Technology Design Process and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Students will also become skilled at instituting the 4C's as part of their approach to problem solving - COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, CREATIVITY and CRITICAL THINKING. Each of these concepts plays a role in creating a STEM-literate student who is able to successfully work with a team.
